Black Lives Matter in Germany and Oldenburg

6/6/2020 was the day that the whole Germany was protesting against police Brutality and racism under the “Black Life Matters” flag inspired from the cruel the murder of George Floyd.

Thousand of people gathered in Alexanderplatz in Berlin, 20000 in Düsseldorf, 10000 in Freiburg, more in Köln, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Munich.  More than 1000 people gathered in the main square in Oldenburg demonstrating and saying Black Lives matter.

The protest were remarkably huge and although they were restrictions because of the Corona virus pandemic, people weren’t afraid to gather. During the event all the people were wearing masks and trying to keep the necessary distances although this was not possible everywhere.

Seedy Saidykahn, from We Migrants, was invited as keynote speaker and he gave a very passionate speech. The video is  the long version of his speech and before it we added some videos from Tik Tok users from all over Germany. The names of the creators are on the videos.

Here follows also written his speech

Blacklivesmatters
No matter who we are
No matter where we came from
No matter what we do
Our lives matters.
Every day new hashtags
Every hour a new injustice and police brutality towards blacks
Every second more pains and those pains remind us from the past.
We as black people are now living with fear,
fear of walking outside, we live in a fear that people don’t wanna do anything with us because of our color.
Do you know how it feels to be black among whites now? I wish you could be in our shoes.
We don’t deserve to live like this and together we will continue fight for justice and for equality until police brutality, discrimination and white supremacy are eradicated
Do you know How it’s  means to be black here in Germany?
Being back in Germany! Hearing someone calling you the N-Word in public places out of nowhere.
Being Black in Germany is having your parents tell you from young age to work twice harder in other to be acknowledged and achieved your goals.
Being black in Germany is making new friends and hoping their parents won’t be racist
I am not a skin color, I contain all of humanity in my heart, in my mind, my flesh, my blood and my bones and I am proud of that fact you should be too. Africans, Americans,Europeans, and Asians we all have one race and that’s the human race, Let’s stop racially labelling..
If you live in a system white supremacy“ trust me you are either fighting the system or you are complicit. There is no neutrality to be had towards system of injustice, it’s not something you can just opt out of.
Today we remember George Floyd, we also remember our forefathers who fought for equality and every other souls who we lost to police brutality or racial injustice. Together we will fight for justice.
We still have a dream that one day we would live in a nation where we will not be judged be the color of their skin, but by the content of their character
We said Black lives matter, we never said only black lives matters
We know that all lives matters, we just need your help with black lives matters
For black lives are in danger.
Some are posting on socialmedia, some are protesting peacefully on the streets, some are educating themselves and having tough conversations with their friends and family.
We have many ways to revolution. Be kind to yourself and to others going in the same direction
Together we will commit to being part of the change that is long overdue in this world
 Thank you
